My top ten ways to get fit after all the indulgences of the holidays are:
1. Stop eating all of the Christmas goodies! If you can't resist give them away.
2. Make time in your busy day to take a walk, take the kids, hubby and dogs along too.
3. Try to eat healthier, eat more fruits, veggies and whole grains.
4. Play games with you kids, physical games, get outside and try out some of the new Christmas gifts.
5. Make a habit of always taking the stairs
6. Make a habit of parking in the parking space that will require you to walk more.
7. Eat foods high in fiber, these foods make you feel full faster and keep you satisfied longer.
8. If it is too cold to walk outside, go to the mall and walk indoors. Just avoid the food court!
9. Eat heart healthy snacks, such as a few almonds or walnuts.
10. Make a new years resolution to start the new decade being more healthy and stick to it!

Recently I finished reading SOUTH OF BROAD by Pat Conroy. The book is set mostly in Charleston, South Carolina in the late 1960s. The book's main character is gossip columnist Leopold Bloom King. Pat Conroy does a fantastic job of pulling in his reader with his wonderfully descriptive language and interesting story lines. I would highly recommend SOUTH OF BROAD and it is a testament to Pat Conroy that I did not want the book to end.

I read a really great book this summer, THE GOD MACHINE by J.G Sandom. I really enjoyed this book! It is a cross between the DaVinci Code and National Treasure. It really should be made into a movie. I am looking forward to reading THE GOSPEL TRUTHS. If you are a fan of historical thrillers such as The Lost Symbol, you should definitely read THE GOD MACHINE. It is a fast paced, page turner that keeps you hooked right up until the last page. A GREAT read!

What three favorite family Thanksgiving traditions have you passed or will pass on to your children?

The family traditions that we have observed and are passing on to our children may be a little different from the "norm" . We moved to Texas from North Carolina 25 years ago, when my husband got a job with an airline in Houston. It is very hard to travel on the airline on holidays, especially for employees, so we have spend almost every Thanksgiving away from our families and had to create our own traditions. The area where we live is made up of lots of families in much the same circumstances as we are, so a group of friends and neighbors get together early on Thanksgiving morning to have fellowship and a Turkey fry. We all bring breakfast foods and our turkey to fry. It is a great opportunity to catch up with friends and now that the kids are older and many are in college, it is a perfect chance for them to see old friends as well. The other traditions that we observe have to do with food! We always have basically the same menu which has become a tradition. The only deviation from the menu is in the deserts. Each of the four of our family picks a desert. My youngest son always picks chocolate pie, but the rest of us might choose something different from year to year.
While I wish that we could have spent Thanksgivings in North Carolina with our families, we have made our Thanksgivings special and meaningful.

• 1 quart whole milk
• 1 1/2 quarts heavy cream
• 3 cups bourbon

Directions

1. In a very large bowl, beat egg yolks until thick and pale yellow. Gradually add sugar to yolks. With a wire whisk, beat in milk and 1 quart cream. Add bourbon, rum, and cognac, stirring constantly.
2. Just before serving, beat egg whites until stiff. Fold into mixture. Whip remaining 1/2 quart heavy cream until stiff, and fold in. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

I hope that I will not have any candy left over! I try to buy candy that I don't like so that I will not eat it. If we do have any leftovers, I will bag it up and let my husband take it to work. I'm sure that my kids will eat some of it before I have the chance to bag it up!

I think that my favorite Halloween costume would have to be the Robin Hood Costume that I made for my son when he was 3 years old (he is now almost 21). I made a tunic and put him in some green tights. I sewed up a cute Robin Hood Hat out of felt complete with feather. He was so cute!! He now hates the word cute, especially when it refers to him in any way but he was soooo CUTE!!!

I am a Scary Mom, just ask my two teenage sons!

I am the Mom of two teenage sons and believe me they think that I am pretty scary. A good example of just how scary I might look on any given day would be the "outfit" that I wore this morning to take my High School Junior to school. He has to be there at 7:25 in the morning, so we have to leave the house before 7:00am. I will admit that I am not a early morning person and I am not going to get up early enough to shower, etc. before taking him to school. This morning the temperature was 49 degrees so I had on my pink fuzzy PJs, a hoodie and I did manage to put on socks and real shoes. I had no make up on (makeup-are you kidding?) and I did not brush my hair or even brush my teeth yet! (I promise, I will do it a little later). My son described me as a "Pink Nightmare" like in "A Christmas Story". I just do not have time to get everything done for myself and still get him to school on time. I have two dogs to take out and walk, lunches to pack, and breakfasts to make. We did make it to school on time but to avoid any possibility of being seen with Mom, otherwise know today as A Pink Nightmare, we have to stop a block from school. You know it is just not COOL for your Mom to take you to school, especially your Mom who still has on her PJs. It doesn't hurt my feelings, I still remember how it feels to be 16 and everything soooo matters! I still remember how "scary" my Mom was. I guess that I learned it all from her. I'm sure that she would be so proud!

I am a busy Mom of two very busy teenage sons. We are constantly on the go, so, many times we have to have a quick dinner. One of the things that I do to make sure that I have a good hot meal in a hurry is plan ahead. I know it sound funny but a slow cooker (crock pot) is a great way to have a quick dinner time meal. If you start your dinner in the morning before you begin your busy day, it is done just in time for dinner. I also use precooked deli chicken in casseroles, it tastes great and saves a lot of prep time. Another standby is any kind of pasta and bottled sauce. It takes just about 10 minutes to cook the pasta and warm up the sauce. You can even add some frozen meatballs. Yummy!
